A cheeky account of my heart bypass surgery
Question: Are you serious?
Answer: As serious as a Heart Attack.
We have all heard this snappy reply at one time or another. The phrase, “As FUNNY as a Heart Attack” is not something that I recall hearing. This book may change that. Aside from being a first person account of my heart problem, bypass surgery, and recovery, it is a “tongue in cheek” view of the things that transpire in a heart patient’s home, workplace, doctor’s office, and hospital. I found humor in parts of the experience, even though, at the time, I did not feel like laughing. How did this lead me to write a book?
"I am writing this narrative because I am going stir crazy. Three weeks after having open-heart surgery, cabin fever is getting to me. My activity was very limited the first two weeks of my recovery and I had a lot of time to think about what I was going through, the bad and the good. I found many experiences pre-op and post-op, funny enough to tell others. I decided that writing about the experience would be a good way to pass time during my recovery. My wife says it's fiction, but I say its factual. Maybe I should say it’s my drug induced version of what really took place. What we have, is, a "cheeky account of my heart bypass surgery." I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 2
I remember a poem I read in High School, and I paraphrase:
Two paths diverged in the wood.
To the right was reality: narrow, scary, and little used.
To the left was denial, wide, smooth, and well worn.
I took the path most traveled.
Chapter 6
There it is again! I’m not going to dislike anyone. Do I look like a grumpy old curmudgeon that blames everyone else for his miserable existence? These medical folks have been jaded by a bunch of grumbling anti-social patients. I’m a people person. I will prove it. I will take what comes with a smile, a joke and an attitude that will put them – and everyone else – at ease.
Chapter 10
My entire life I have had a nemesis with me. Today it was still a nemesis, not because it was there, but because of its absence. My nemesis is narcolepsy. Not the falling asleep in your cornflakes kind, just the always-sleepy kind.
